Belgian platform for decommissioning offshore and onshore wind turbines
About decommissioning
Belgium has almost 1,500 onshore and offshore wind turbines and there is an increasing potential in order to reach the Belgian climate and energy objectives. Most of these wind turbines are designed and certified for a service life of 20–25 years.
Today, it is our challenge to decommission the older wind turbines in a professional and sustainable way: refurbishment, re-use or recycle in a cost-efficient way, will be some of the choices to be made.
Therefore, the Port Oostende and REBO NV have taken the initiative to launch a platform where the competences and expertise in Belgium are gathered in order to handle this challenge.
It is the aim to present and to share the relevant know-how on this website DecomWind.be.
This action fits within the transnational cooperation project Decom Tools, in which Port Oostende and POM West Flanders participate, together with other institutions and enterprises around the North Sea. The project has been approved within the framework of the Interreg V B North Sea program.
